the love of a mother

THE LOVE OF A MOTHER; A BEACON OF CARE!

By: Joyce Ohenewaa Kwapong

She endured to have you...

Take me to where it all began mother,
When the sound of my cry was announced to the whole world
And the joyful sounds from loved ones tickled in my ears

Take me to where it all began
When your life was wandering on the path of life and death

Mother, take me to where it all began
When your life hanged on helplessly
Like a needy woman's thin thread

I cry out mother,
Take me to where it all began
When food tasted like a bitter pill to swallow and water like urine

Mother! once more,
Take me to where it all began
When you traveled in and out of the hospital
Like a tourist, captivated by the sight of a site

You remember, mother?
When the gloom of your life gave way to a wonderful time?
As you brought into this world a life from within you

And myself, I remember
Oh yes down memory lane
When you would starve to feed me
When you would sell
To give me education

You believed,
If you educate a woman,
You educate a nation

You have always been there for me
You give me support when I'm falling
A shoulder to cry on when I'm teary
A wide spread arm when I'm lonely
Strength when I'm weak
And love even when I cause you pain

Yet, you never forgot what a great man once said

A gem cannot be polished without friction
Nor a man perfected without trials

That remained your philosophy

So when I erred, you corrected me
And placed me on a smooth path
A path that will not one day lead to my doom

When my heart seems wounded by your correction
It is never healed by hatred
But only healed with your love

You forgive whatever needs forgiving
And help with whatever I need help with

I can never thank you enough mother

A mother who endured the excruciating pain of labor
Only to give me life she was unsure of

My thanks today goes out to you mother
One who availed herself to be a playground for the gynecologists tools

A mother who keeps her words and promises
One who brightens up my world when it's dark and empty

You may have your own imperfections
But in my eyes you're a mother of perfection

I may have wronged you
And I may wrong you in times to come
I have never want to see you hurt
But to err is human

Please forgive me
And remember the love you always had for me
From pregnancy
To delivery
To my upbringing
Let that flame of love never die out
Let love continue to be our hallmark

Out of my heart mother,
Take this love

Out of my love, take my appreciation

Take this SALUTE

Because I have tried to understand the hearts of some women
And realized
Not all women are mothers

Today, I make this assertion
And plead the world
To say ayekoo mum
Merci beaucoup ma mèrè
Because you are a precious mother indeed

Happy Mother's Day To All Mothers!
God Bless Our Faithful Mothers!
God Bless Our Responsible Mothers!

Long Live Mother Ghana!
Long Live Mother Africa!
